June 2022
Since it had been a few years since our last "real" vacation thanks to COVID and we were still not too keen about getting on a plane with the unmasked masses, we decide that a road trip to Vermont and New Hampshire was a good idea. It's just far enough away from home to feel like a vacation, yet still close enough to be easily drivable in a day. There was a hot air balloon festival in Hartford, VT so we stayed right on the Vermont/New Hampshire border in White River Junction. Knowing that balloon festivals are a fickle thing since they're dependent on weather, we planned plenty of other stuff to do as well. We toured nine covered bridges (one of my favorite things to find/photograph), took a cog train to the top of Mount Washington and an aerial tram to the top of Cannon Mountain, visited Quechee Gorge, watched granite being removed from the earth at a quarry and saw the final product in a very impressive cemetery. We visited the famous Vermont Country Store too. We never saw a balloon leave the ground, but it was a busy and fun trip, nonetheless!
