Cape Breton – Day 2

July - August 2019

Our first stop of the day was the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. Everyone knows that he invented the telephone, but I had no idea that he was a key figure in aviation. He spent much of his life in Baddeck and his Silver Dart was the first plane flown in the British Empire. Later in the day, we walked around downtown Baddeck before heading to the pier to board the schooner Amoeba for our first time on a sailing vessel. The wind was good, so we got to experience sailing around Bras d'Or Lake under wind power. What a thrill! Also thrilling was the fact that we witnessed a 22-degree solar halo! We ended the day with a relaxing meal at the famous Baddeck Lobster Suppers. Besides lobster, we had multiple plates of the best mussels I've ever tasted.
