Political correctness taken to scary new heights

This article leaves me a almost speechless. I’m not a fan of political correctness to begin with, and even less so when it’s forced upon kids. I’m a firm believer that religion has no place in schools. However, trying to remove everyday words from kids’ vocabulary in a misguided attempt to avoid offending anyone who has ever believed in any religion is deranged.

The words that the school is banning are not words like Jesus Christ or god. I’d get 100% behind that. The words they are banning are things like dinosaur and birthday. My personal favorite is however, the horribly controversial word… wait for it… pepperoni. If you are offended by any of these words, you need to wrap yourself i bubble wrap, lock yourself in a room and turn out the lights so that you can’t be offended by the color of the paint on the walls.

If I had a kid in NYC schools I would immediately throw him/her a big dinosaur themed birthday party. And yes, you guessed it, I’d serve pepperoni pizza.

Freedom Tower Gets a Better Name

World Trade CenterThe NY/NJ Port Authority announced yesterday that they are finally doing what I’ve been hoping they would do. The new skyscraper being built in lower Manhattan at the site of the former Twin Towers will not be called the Freedom Tower and previously planned. Instead the it will be called 1 World Trade Center. I’m glad they finally saw the light and called it what it should be called. They even did it with 3 or 4 years to spare before it’s completed. I’m sure some people will be upset about the name change, but my guess is that it will be the same group of people who would upset no matter what it’s called.

Drop your message on NYC

For the past thirty years, I’ve spent my New Year’s Eves with my grandfather watching the ball drop in Times Square. This year, however, I was able to send a message to those brave souls that will spend the evening watching the ball drop in person.

You can too. Read about it at CNN.com then go do it right here.
