Cape Breton – Day 5

July - August 2019

We checked out of our toasty cabin in the morning and got on the road yet again. Following a 5-minute ride on the Englishtown Ferry (Yes, you read that correctly.) we arrived at the dock for a puffin boat tour. We saw more bald eagles than puffins. Thanks to the amazing number of eagles, the puffins were mostly in hiding to avoid being eaten. However, it was still a photographer's dream. Besides the eagles, we saw some puffins, blue herons, gannets and seals. After the tour, we drove to Glace Bay to visit the Marconi National Historic Site, which was also fascinating. We ended the day in the first "big city" of our time in Cape Breton, Sydney. We, of course, had a delicious seafood dinner outside and settled into our hotel, which was actually in the Mi'kmaq town of Membertou.
