Michigan

August 2012

I had only heard of Mackinac Island when it was featured a few times on Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe. As it turns out, my mother had wanted to go there for a long time because she'd received a brochure from Mackinac Island decades ago. We started to plan this trip in for summer 2011, but a side trip to Ottawa turned into a trip to Montreal and Ottawa with no stop in Michigan. Therefore, my first trip to the Midwest got pushed out until 2012. After spending almost a week relaxing on the island with no cars, we headed back to the Lower Peninsula and visited Frankenmuth, The Henry Ford and The Ford Rouge Plant in Dearborn and Holland. After covering Victorian, German, American and Dutch we headed back north for a stop in Petoskey and then back to the same tiny one room airport that we flew into, Pellston Regional Airport.
