August 2011
We had experienced French culture in Montreal and the government city of Ottawa, so on our final day we headed into more rural Canada. We drove an hour and half to Perth, ON for the Perth Garlic Festival. It was a highlight of the trip. (Granted, I love small town festivals and I love garlic, so how could it not be great?) We tasted garlic cheese curds, garlic fudge, garlic ice cream, garlic sausage, and more. Plus there were demonstrations of garlic braiding, cooking and a talk by one of the most unique and interesting characters I've ever met.

We drove out of Ottawa to the Ontario countryside and Perth

You know you're at a garlic festival when the flower arrangements even feature garlic

Ted Maczka, the Fish Lake Garlic Man gave a fascinating talk about growing garlic

I really wish I could have brought some of this great garlic across the border!

No matter how long i watch the garlic braiding demonstration, I'll never be coordinated enough to do it
