Take a look at the new Harry Potter iPod!

2 New Michael’s Guides Available Now!

While the blog part of my site was down, Michael’s Guide was growing. I’ve created 2 new guides.

Michael’s Guide to Wireless Security will help you learn how to better secure your wireless networks. It’s amazing how many people just plug in their router and never set up any security.

Michael’s Guide to Choosing Passwords is a short guide on how to pick better passwords. Your passwords is are the keys to your life. Don’t leave doors unlocked because you chose a weak password.

Check them out today in Michael’s Guides

What I listen to – Security Now

So, I said the last one was the last podcast featuring Leo Laporte. Well, I just realized there was one more. It’s a brand new one and there’s only been one episode so far. We’ll see how good it is as time goes one.

This podcast is about computer security. It features Leo along with Steve Gibson from grc.com. I’ve mentioned Steve’s site in previous posts.

What I listen to – Tech Guy on KFI

The second podcast that I listen to is atually the first podcast I ever downloaded. It’s the show that introduced me to podcasting.

The Tech Guy on KFI airs every Saturday and Sunday on KFI 640AM in Los Angeles. It’s hosted by Leo Laporte, who I’ve mentioned before.

It’s a long one since it’s a whole radio show, but I like to save it for when i don’t have any other podcasts to listen to.

Visit the site at www.leo.am.
The feed is at http://feeds.feedburner.com/kfi

What I listen to – TWiT

You’ll find that many of the podcasts I listen to originate from the old cast of ZDTV/TechTV. The frontrunner in that group is Leo Laporte. He has several podcasts.

This Week in Tech (or TWiT as it’s known) is the most popular. It consists of many members of the old Screensavers cast and crew. Some regulars include Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, John C. Dvorak, Kevin Rose, Yoshi Deherrera, Roger Chang, David Prager and Robert Heron.

They talk about the latest in tech news and have a fun time doing it. his podcast comes out every Sunday at midnight or so.

CFH is back!!!

For those of you who enjoyed watching The Screen Savers and Call for Help on ZDTV/TechTV, I hvae GREAT news! For the past year or 2 Call for Help 2.0 has been on the Canadian version of G4TechTV. (This network is NOT owned by Comcast, the company that bought the American version of TechTV and turned it into G4 while firing most of the staff.)

The new Call for Help show is really a mix of Call for Help and the Screen Savers. It’s hosted by Leo Laporte still, but he also has 2 co-hosts, Amber MacArthur and Andy Walker.

While this show is available in Canada on G4TechTV Canada and in Australia on the HOW TO Channel, it was not available in the United States. That is changing! Beginning on 29 August, Call for Help can be seen on G4 at 1100 EDT weekdays!!!

I’m setting my DVR right now! Downloading the torrents of the show was becoming tiresome.

Secure your computer the NSA way

The NSA (National Security Agency, the government’s top secret decryption and code breaking agency) has released guidelines on how to secure your computer. They have versions for most major operating systems.

It’s pretty thorough and worth a read if you’re worried about computer security (and you should be!).

Take a look at it on the NSA’s site.

Konfabulator is free

For those of you who haven’t updated to MacOS X 10.4 Tiger yet, or who use Windows, the program that inspired the “Widget” technology in OS X 10.4 is now free. You used to have to pay for this program, but Yahoo! just bought it and now gives it away for free. I downloaded it last night. It’s a cool program, but you can easily cluter your desktop beyond recognition.

Google Maps gets new feature

I’ve mentioned Google Maps before, but I thought I’d point out that they just added a “hybrid” feature where you can overlay maps and satellite images. I’ve been saying they should add this. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who thought so because they finally did it.

Searching my site/blog

Using I set up my site with Google’s new service, Google Sitemaps. It should result in better indexing of my site by Google. This means you’ll get more accurate results and some of the lag I’ve mentioned before will no longer be a problem when I make changes.
