Stuff I’ve found online that you should think about checking out

A cat’s tongue

Here’s an odd picture. Someone captured a close-up of their cat’s tongue. Will make me think a little more the next time Fluffy licks my hand.

Check it out here.

Discovery Atlas is amazing

I’m a big fan of the Discovery Channel and it’s various other networks. They’ve now taken on one of the most unique shows I’ve seen yet. Well, actually calling this a show is probably a little bit of an understatement. It’s more of a spectacle or event.

It’s called Discovery Atlas. It’s a series of 30 2-hour shows that will be produced and aired over the next 5 years. Each episode profiles one country. The features some history, but mainly focuses on modern life in that nation. One of the things that makes this show so amazing is that it is shot entirely in high definition. It’s simulcasted on Discovery Channel and Discovery HD Theater. The camera work is breathtaking.

There is also a lot of content on their website including podcasts. It’s definitely worth checking out. China has already aired, next will be Brazil, Italy and Australia. My DVR is already set. They air Sundays at 9pm.

Onion Goggles

I have just about the most sensitive eyes known to man. I also love to cook. This poses a problem when I have to chop onions. Luckily my knife skills are decent so I wind up chopping with my eyes closed. This, of course, is a bad idea!

Enter a good idea… Onion Goggles. Why didn’t I invent these? Thanks to Emeril’s blog, I found these. Too bad I can’t order a pair before I chop 9 pounds of peppers tomorrow for the luau!

It’s about time

Today is an important day in the history of the state of New Jersey. I know, you’re thinking, “He’s happy about tax day?”  Well, good news for you is that taxes aren’t du til the 17th this year, but that’s not what I’m talking about. Today is the day that New Jersey finally joins the ranks of other smarter states and enacts a ban on smoking in restaurants, bars and other public places. No longer will we have to be greeted with “smoking or non” when we enter a restaurant. Nor will we have to choke on smoke that wafts through the invisible wall that supposedly separates smoking and non-smoking sections.

All I can say is this law is way overdue. Learn more about why this is such good news at thetruth.com.

More Flying Spaghetti Monster

I forgot one thing in my previous post about The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. A lot of “devout” religious people have sent the author many e-mails. Reading them can only lead you to one concusion… Apparently, in order to be a religious person, you also have to be a foul-mouthed moron. Not saying that’s true, but that is the impression these people give in their letters.

You can read the various letters by clicking here.

Happy 30th Apple!

You already know I’m a fan of Apple computers so it won’t come to surprise that I think their 30th anniversary is a cool thing. Despite many woes over the years the company is going stronger than ever. Surprisingly, it isn’t their computers that put them in the great shape they’re in today, but instead it was their iPod. Of course, I never leave home these days without my iPod so maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Flying Spaghetti Monster Gospel hits stores

In case you haven’t already heard about this, let me give you some background in the shortest way possible… In order sidestep the separation of church and state some school districts have tried to allow the teaching of “intelligent design.” The Christian mythology of creation cannot be taught, so ID stops one step short of endorsing the creation mythology. It says that some things in nature are too complex to have been created by evolution so “something” else must have created them. It stops right there but you can figure out what it implies.

So, if schools are teaching ID they are basically teaching Christian specific beliefs. This means that they should also teach the mythology of other religions. This is where Bobby Henderson comes in. He wrote a letter to a few school districts requesting that they teach his religion, Pastafarianism or the worship of The Flying Spaghetti Monster. It very quickly snowballed into a very popular topic and many people have seen it as a great oppurtunity to point out the faults with the argument for ID and point out that every religion sounds silly to those who aren’t a member of it.
Today his book finally hits stores and we’ll get to read all about the Flying Spaghetti Monster and his noodly appendages.

Buy the book now at Amazon. Read the story in USA Today. Learn more at his site, Veganza.com. I definately need to buy this book.
