Stuff I’ve found online that you should think about checking out

What I listen to – Tech Guy on KFI

The second podcast that I listen to is atually the first podcast I ever downloaded. It’s the show that introduced me to podcasting.

The Tech Guy on KFI airs every Saturday and Sunday on KFI 640AM in Los Angeles. It’s hosted by Leo Laporte, who I’ve mentioned before.

It’s a long one since it’s a whole radio show, but I like to save it for when i don’t have any other podcasts to listen to.

Visit the site at www.leo.am.
The feed is at http://feeds.feedburner.com/kfi

What I listen to – TWiT

You’ll find that many of the podcasts I listen to originate from the old cast of ZDTV/TechTV. The frontrunner in that group is Leo Laporte. He has several podcasts.

This Week in Tech (or TWiT as it’s known) is the most popular. It consists of many members of the old Screensavers cast and crew. Some regulars include Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, John C. Dvorak, Kevin Rose, Yoshi Deherrera, Roger Chang, David Prager and Robert Heron.

They talk about the latest in tech news and have a fun time doing it. his podcast comes out every Sunday at midnight or so.

Visit their site at www.thisweekintech.com.
Their feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/twit.

The “What I listen to” Series

Since there hasn’t been much of anything of interest going on lately, I thought I’d talk about podcasting. For those of you who don’t know, podcasting is simply the delivery of audio files (or video) via an RSS feed. Basically it’s audio that’s delivered to you automatically every time the author creates a new episode.

Over the coming days (or weeks) I’ll list all of the podcasts to which I subscribe. I’ll provide their homepage, the feed URL and some comments. Hopefully you’ll find a podcast you didn’t know about.

Secure your computer the NSA way

The NSA (National Security Agency, the government’s top secret decryption and code breaking agency) has released guidelines on how to secure your computer. They have versions for most major operating systems.

It’s pretty thorough and worth a read if you’re worried about computer security (and you should be!).

Take a look at it on the NSA’s site.

Konfabulator is free

For those of you who haven’t updated to MacOS X 10.4 Tiger yet, or who use Windows, the program that inspired the “Widget” technology in OS X 10.4 is now free. You used to have to pay for this program, but Yahoo! just bought it and now gives it away for free. I downloaded it last night. It’s a cool program, but you can easily cluter your desktop beyond recognition.

Zug.com

If you’re looking for a site to make you laugh out loud, check out Zug. It’s a hilarious site run by a guy named John Hargrave. He’s insane. His pieces are mostly chronicles about his crazy and really random adventures. Whether he’s ordering prescription drugs online or trying to see how far he can push signing bogus names on credit card slips, he’ll have you cracking up. I can’t really do the site justice in this description.

Check it out now at www.zug.com.

Google Maps gets new feature

I’ve mentioned Google Maps before, but I thought I’d point out that they just added a “hybrid” feature where you can overlay maps and satellite images. I’ve been saying they should add this. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who thought so because they finally did it.

Voltron & Transformers movies?

As much as I loved Voltron and the Transformers as a kid in the 80’s, I’m sorry to see that they’re both being made into movies. You know that these things are always terrible when they go back and make a movie years later. Check it out on Yahoo! News.
