2 New Michael’s Guides Available Now!

While the blog part of my site was down, Michael’s Guide was growing. I’ve created 2 new guides.

Michael’s Guide to Wireless Security will help you learn how to better secure your wireless networks. It’s amazing how many people just plug in their router and never set up any security.

Michael’s Guide to Choosing Passwords is a short guide on how to pick better passwords. Your passwords is are the keys to your life. Don’t leave doors unlocked because you chose a weak password.

Check them out today in Michael’s Guides

Blog Outage

You may or may not have noticed that my blog was down for the past few days. Apparently my webhost (Vizaweb) was having some sort of MySQL database issues again. I like them as a host over all, and the price is sure right. However, I hope they get over these “growing pains” that they’ve been going through.

I don’t check my site every minute of every day, so the only way I realized it was down was that several of my scheduled entries never showed up in the RSS feed.

If you ever notice any part of the site isn’t working, please feel free to e-mail me.

What I listen to – Eric & Kathy

Eric & Kathy is the morning show on WTMX 101.9 The Mix in Chicago. They post a podcast of hihlights from their show each day. I think they are pretty funny. It’s mostly a call in show with some celbrity interviews mixed in. Eric’s voice and personality almost reminds me of my favorite talk show host who’s no longer on the air, Casey Bartholemew.

What I listen to – Diggnation

Moving on to other members of the old ZDTV/TechTV cast, here’s a podcast from Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht. I stopped watching what was left of The Screen Savers after TechTV became G4 so I never saw Alex on the show, but he’s pretty entertaining.

The guys spend about 30 mins each week drinking beer and going over the most “dug” stories on Kevin’s site Digg.com.

They also have a video feed at http://revision3.com/diggnation/feed/small.mov.xml.

Another way to help

Donating online is probably still the easiest way to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, but if you live in the Philadelphia area you also have another option.

NBC10 and Wawa are sponsoring a program where you can print out a ccoupon that you can have the cashier at Wawa scan and the donation will be charged to your purchase.

Download the coupons here.

Hurricane Katrina Relief

Red CrossUnless you’ve spent the past few days in a cave, you know that the City of New Orleans has basically been wiped out by the flooding that has followed Hurricane Katrina. I just added a llink to the American Red Cross to the homepage. Please use it to donate to the massive relief effort in New Orleans and the surrounding areas, including Mississippi and Alabama.

What I listen to – Security Now

So, I said the last one was the last podcast featuring Leo Laporte. Well, I just realized there was one more. It’s a brand new one and there’s only been one episode so far. We’ll see how good it is as time goes one.

This podcast is about computer security. It features Leo along with Steve Gibson from grc.com. I’ve mentioned Steve’s site in previous posts.

What I listen to – Laporte Report

OK, this is the last podcast in the series that stars Leo Laporte. The Laporte Report is just a catch all of random radio interviews that Leo does. You never know what’s going to pop up on this. Anything from Canadian radio shows to podcast interviews can be found here.
